Dear Ones:
To say that we live in an insane world is an understatement. Nations are rising against nations and corruption abounds on every level of society. We have forsaken “the God of our Fathers” and the clouds of His judgment are hovering over our beloved land. Biblical foundations (truth) have been thrown to the wind, resulting in widespread fear and hopelessness. The use of alcohol and drugs (legal and illegal) is rampant, even in Christians. Sin has become confused with mental illness which has resulted in serious demonic deception and bondage. True believers need to understand the reality of spiritual warfare; for “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual wickedness in high places..”
As a young pastor I suffered an attack of overwhelming fear and anxiety. I was “paralyzed” spiritually and mentally for two weeks; after several bouts of weeping and utter despondency, I was led to 2 Tim. 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” I realized that I was wrestling with a demonic spirit of fear that was not from God. I learned that God’s fear produces power, love, and a sound mind! Amen! That “revelation” struck my heart and led me to embrace God’s delivering grace! That experience also prompted my first book “Healing for the Mind.”
In light of this mental battle, I’ve been teaching lately on how to discern God’s “voice” from Satan’s deception. First, Satan drives people, while Christ always leads His sheep.(Psa.23) Second, Satan not only drives, but confuses the issue; Jesus, however, makes the situation clear (no confusion). Third, Satan watches a person fail and then declares him/her hopeless! That’s where despair sets in. We must reject that lie and embrace Christ who is our Hope! He will never leave nor forsake His children. Praise God, our Anchor holds! It is “Christ in you the hope of glory.” Amen!
On these 3 premises we need “to fight the good fight of faith” and resist the enemy’s “fiery darts” which slander God’s provision for us. (cf. James 4:7; 1 Pet. 5:7-9; 2 Cor. 10:3-5) Our spiritual and mental health (stability) is at stake. We must live on the “right” side of Calvary where the battle was won. Satan is a defeated foe and we must learn to act like it!
I fight this spiritual battle daily. I must enter the Mission “dressed” in the “whole armour of God.” (cf. Eph. 6:10f) Sometimes I’d love to “escape” class and run for the hills; but God’s victory lies in the midst of the battle, not apart from it! Amen! Thanks for standing with me in prayer that I might stand firm in the battle. Apart from a few aches and challenges, I’m doing very well. PTL!
With love and prayer for overcoming grace in your battle,
Pastor Bill
