Dear Ones:
We just celebrated Memorial Day honoring those who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving in our military. Warfare is as old as sin itself when through Adam’s rebellion he declared “war” on God’s authority; thus the ongoing battle between good and evil ensued. Not all wars are evil, King David cried, “Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.” (Psa. 35:1)
This was the same David, who as a courageous shepherd boy volunteered to “take on” Goliath, the Philistine giant. When the frightened Saul initially “rejected” this “foolish” request, David’s response was, “Is there not a cause?” We know the rest of the story. It certainly was “a good fight of faith” which is still apropos today; Is there still “not a cause,” demanding that we “war a good warfare” (1 Tim. 1:18)?! Satan’s strategy to destroy God’s people seems fiercer than ever. “The fight is on!” Hear Isaac Watts’ famous challenge:
“Am I a soldier of the cross,
A foll'wer of the Lamb?
And shall I fear to own His cause,
Or blush to speak His name?
Must I be carried to the skies
On flow'ry beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize,
And sailed thro' bloody seas?
Sure I must fight, if I would reign;
Increase my courage, Lord!
I'll bear the toil, endure the pain,
Supported by Thy Word.”
I recently viewed a film of the allied invasion at Normandy (WWII, 1944). Thousands of our young and brightest men “hit the beach” knowing that most would be killed. But “there was a cause” and courage overshadowed fear. The cause was just, but not without casualty. God is looking today for “a few good men;” men who will courageously and fervently “sell out” to His “Cause” in challenging the forces of Hell! Jesus said, “I will build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it!” We may lose a few battles along the way; but remember that the War has already been won by our Lord Jesus Christ! Read the last chapter of the Book---we win! “Is there not a cause? Indeed there is! It’s time to “sign up”!
Thank you for your continued intercession for my spiritual and physical strength. My schedule is “heavy” at times; I’m grateful to the Lord for “extra” grace go keep on moving even when my body doesn’t always cooperate.
With my love and prayers,
Pastor Bill
