September 2024 Update

Dear Ones:

Our chapel meetings at the Mission have been awesome lately. God is speaking deeply to hearts for which I have earnestly prayed. The emphasis has been on the penetrating power of spoken words. We’ve all heard folks say, “Sticks and stones will break my bones; but words will never hurt me.” That’s not true! I deal with people who have been stabbed and shot with scars to prove it; yet they’re still nursing open wounds from words spoken to them as children. Things like, “You’re a loser; you’ll never amount to anything, etc.” Satan entrenches these thoughts in the mind which become obsessive (habitual); only divine deliverance through the power of God’s Word will overcome the problem. Some of you know exactly what I mean, causing you to “put on” the helmet of salvation daily to keep your sanity!

James says that the tongue is a “little member” but can create big-time damage. He speaks of a small rudder that can change the direction of a huge ocean liner; so this little, boneless piece of meat in our mouths has been known to change the course of history! James also says, “the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity...set on fire of hell.” Wow! That reminds me of forest fires started by a tiny spark! (cf. James 3:1-10)

It’s been said that more wounds have been inflicted by the edge of the tongue than by the edge of the sword! (Prov. 18:8) Words can be forgiven but never easily forgotten. How Satan has used bitter and thoughtless words to critically divide our homes and churches! Tragically, divorce among believers is neck and neck with the world; not to mention those who are “divorced” under the same roof!

It’s time for a “come to Jesus” epidemic where couples, families and churches humble themselves, repenting of sin, and seeking the Lord’s forgiveness. This is real revival which promotes spiritual healing and reconciliation with others. I told the guys that if we all got right with God and each other we could change the destiny of Youngstown, OH! Communities (and a nation) can only be changed one person at a time. The same is true in each of our situations. Hear David’s plea, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psa. 19:14). Hallelujah!

Thank you so much for your continued intercession as I engage in this vibrant ministry. The burden gets heavy some times and I get tired in the work, but thankfully never tired of it. Your prayers and encouragement have something to do with that.

With my love and joyous gratitude to each of you,

Pastor Bill
