July 2026 Update

Dear Ones:

Do any of you ever talk to yourself? I have watched some mentally deranged people on the street talking out loud to themselves. Is it ever legitimate to have a conversation with yourself? Does that mean you’re “crazy”? The Psalmist gives us some insight in this matter when he says, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul and why art thou disquieted (shook up) in me? Hope thou in God...” (Psa. 42:5) Who’s talking to whom here?

Since God gave us a body with a spirit (God-conscious) and a soul (self-conscious) there’s some possible communication. David’s "soul” (emotion, etc.) is depressed and fearful; his spirit (sealed in truth) rebukes his soul and tells him to “hope in God!” David is, as we say, “chewing himself out”! There are times that we need to get “tough” with ourselves on the basis of Scripture. Our spirit, by the Holy Spirit must dictate to our soul (not the other way around). That’s the good fight of faith in light of future hope. Our victory and position is already settled in Christ even though our soul’s condition is struggling. It’s imperative that we interpret our “condition” (temporary) in light of our eternal “position” in Christ! To do otherwise is to give place to fears, doubts and loss of hope. This was David’s concern and needs to be ours today.

I know this concept may be new and/or strange to you; but I have found it very helpful in thwarting the “the fiery darts” of the enemy. (cf. Eph. 6:10ff) We must be active, not passive, in fighting the “good fight” of faith in order to maintain our spiritual sanity! Do give this strategy prayerful consideration.

Thanks for your continued intercession for my Mission ministry. I’m glad to report that the Holy Spirit continues to convict sinners through His Word. Recently a middle-aged man walked forward after class sobbing; he testified unashamedly of God “plowing” his heart. He prayed right there for salvation in Christ and left with a new joy. He’s moved on, but let’s pray that his conversion may be genuine.

My physical condition is still improving gradually but I get impatient at times and have to practice what I explained above. A special thanks to those who have responded to these updates. It’s a real blessing to hear what God is up to in your lives. Keep praising.
